FORA É O VENCEDOR DO CONCURSO PARA A RENOVAÇÃO DA PRAÇA CENTRAL DE PLOVDIV
Após um período de discussão pública, o Município de Plovdiv anunciou hoje que o escritório FORA é o vencedor do concurso para a renovação da Praça Central.
O enunciado pedia uma solução de arquitectura e paisagismo para a revitalização e renovação da praça central da cidade de Plovdiv, a segunda maior cidade da Bulgária, construída sobre os escombros do antigo Fórum romano de Philippopolis. A intervenção compreende uma área de 57.000 m2, e revela a intersecção entre diferentes períodos históricos, desde a antiguidade até à ocupação Soviética.
O concurso recebeu um total de 125 propostas oriundas de 41 países. A proposta vencedora do concurso será apresentada no dia 18 de Outubro em Plovdiv, no âmbito do festival de arquitectura ‘One Architecture Week’

Why this project was selected:
1. Clear and simple project proposal. Creates clearly defined spaces
2. Creates potential for socialization of archaeology, a possibility for a “parallel world”
3. Balanced amount of exposed archaeology, not too little, not too much. A possibility to easily adapt the project, according to what future excavations show.
4. Good connections with the existing city fabric, also on lower (archaeological) level. Retraces the main street in north-south direction in front of the Post Office
5. Complies with the objectives in the Competition Brief
Recommendations:
1. To consider fixed instead of movable stage, due to technical reasons
2. The underground level should have richer functions: e.g. educational plus the proposed underground museum function because of danger to become dead area
3. To reconsider the water mirror
4. To reconsider the wooden paving. It should be substituted by more sustainable material like concrete or stone, but the pattern should be preserved
5. To provide better shading
