La Catenaria y el Arco

El Insòlit 2019 es un festival de intervenciones efimeras que abrió las puertas de los patios de Palma a la creatividad, durante la primera semana de julio. El proyecto, comisariado por Aina Bigorra, Erik Herrera y Pep Rovira, quiere promover y mostrar de manera activa y participativa el valor patrimonial de Baleares, a través de acciones creativas efímeras.

 

“La Catenaria y el Arco” es la intervención efímera realizada por los arquitectos Manuel Bouzas y Santiago del Aguila en el patio del Can Balaguer (de los arquitectos Flores y Prats) en Palma de Mallorca. La propuesta toma como referencia los arcos de piedra del patio, y los contraponen con una geometría inversa, unas catenarias formadas ligeras mallas de acero, cubiertas de acetatos que proyectan una luz cálida en el interior del patio.

 

1. El Can Balaguer, diseñado por Flores y Prats, se organiza en torno a un patio compuesto por una sucesión de arcos de piedra.
2. Nos interesan esos arcos.
3. Proponemos contraponer al arco con su geometría inversa, la catenaria:
4. Una lucha contra la gravedad mientras que la otra la utiliza a su favor.
5. Una pesa mientras que la otra es ligera.
6. Una se comprime mientras que la otra se estira.
7. Una es sólida mientras que la otra es transparente.
8. Una da sombra mientras que la otra arroja color.
9. Una nace del suelo, mientras que la otra lo hace desde el cielo.
10. Una ya estaba ahí, mientras que la otra, todavía no.

Insòlit 2019 is a festival of temporary installations that opened the doors of Palma’s courtyards to creativity during the first week of July. The project, curated by Aina Bigorra, Erik Herrera and Pep Rovira, wants to promote and show in an active and participative way the heritage value of the Balearic Islands, through temporary creative actions.

The proposal takes as reference the arches of stone of the patio, and the opposite with a reverse geometry, catenaries formed light steel meshes, covered with acetates that project a warm light in the interior of the courtyard.

1. Can Balaguer is an ancient house designed by Flores y Prats around a courtyard, which is organized by the rhythm of stone arches.
2. We are seduced by the beauty of those arches.
3. We want to confront two opposite geometries: the arc and the catenary.
4. One fights against gravity while the other one works with it.
5. One requires mass while the other achieves lightness.
6. One is compressed while the other stretches.
7. One is opaque while the other lets light pass through it.
8. One provides shade while the other projects its color.
9. One grows from the ground while the other falls from the sky.
10. One was already there while the other not yet.
